Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll Declares November 30th Small Business Saturday to Support and Celebrate Local Small Businesses
Parking at City lots, garages, meters free November 28-December 1 to encourage downtown shopping
Mayor Kim Driscoll today announced the City of Salem’s participation in the ninth annual Small Business Saturday. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small, independently-owned businesses that help boost local economies across the country.
“As the holiday season approaches, I hope all Salem residents will shop local first and support our small businesses,” said Mayor Driscoll. “I am pleased to once again participate in Small Business Saturday and celebrate our local small businesses throughout Salem.”
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers. Since inception, Small Business Saturday has served as the ceremonial kickoff to the busy holiday shopping season for small, independently-owned businesses.
In recognizing the importance of supporting independent businesses in Salem, Mayor Driscoll has issued a proclamation designating Saturday, November 30th, as Small Business Saturday in Salem. In addition, the City will offer free parking at all City garages, parking lots, and meters from November 28 through December 1, to help encourage downtown shopping.
In addition to free downtown parking, the City is offering free bike share rides and discounted membership to residents and visitors. Beginning on Thanksgiving and lasting through December 24th, the price of the first year of an annual Zagster membership will be 50% off for new subscribers. Riders that choose the pay as you go option can receive $4.00 of ride credit, good for 2 hours of free riding, with the promo code RIDE4FREE.
“We hope visitors and residents alike will take advantage of these offers as the City embarks on its first year of winter operations for our bike share system,” added Mayor Driscoll.
