Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance

status of ADU ORDINANCE

On Thursday, October 10, Salem’s City Council and Committee on Ordinances, Licenses & Legal Affairs gave the Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance first passage in an 8-3 vote.

The Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance will return to the Committee on Ordinances, Licenses & Legal Affairs on Wednesday, Oct. 23, followed by a vote by the full City Council on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The City Council and Planning Board has held two joint public hearings to listen to resident input regarding accessory dwelling units.

The Planning Board made a recommendation to the City Council on September 5, 2019. On September 12, 2019, the City Council referred the ordinance to the Ordinance, Licenses and Legal Affairs (OLLA) subcommittee.
